Sean Smith - Advisor

Sean Smith - Advisor

Hailing from Kenosha, WI, Sean is a cheesehead through and through (except he doesn’t actually like cheese). This Biochemistry major loves ophthalmology and neuroscience, but he’s also minoring in Politics, Law & Social Thought. His love for classic rock is trumped only by his passion for social justice; he went on an Alternative Spring Break trip and was an Urban Immersion participant, so feel free to ask him about these Rice programs. You can catch him singing at the top of his lungs or dancing in his favorite banana costume. Though he’s bad at Mario Kart, he makes up for it with his burping skills. As a Sid sophomore, he’ll be part of the Spirit Committee and plan fun events for the college. Sean will love his O-Week group more than he loves candy—which is saying a lot. - Sofia Flores-Rojas, Sid ‘22

Alison Drileck - Peer Academic Advisor

Alison Drileck - Peer Academic Advisor

Hailing from the city of San Antonio, Texas, Alison (“Ali”) Drileck is an awesome-possum Sid Richardson Junior, where she’s super involved in college government and culture. Previously a Floor Rep and a future Historian, if you’re lookin’ to know your Sid, ain’t nowhere better than this kid! Ali’s also super committed to volunteering, giving her time at organizations like Camp Kesem, the Rice Historical Review, and Urban Immersion. In her studies, Ali is majoring in Social Policy Analysis and History, giving her a strong background and passion for social science and humanities academics. As a Peer Academic Advisor, she’s trained to help you out with all your academic questions and needs. Should you ever find yourself needing a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, or a person to give you the 411 on Brazil in 1842, give Ali a call! - Alex Vela, Lovett ‘21

Eden Desta - Gofer

Eden Desta - Gofer

She’s sweet, she’s funny, and she’s a Kinesiology: Health Sciences major. She’s Eden Desta, the big headed Junior hailing from Austin, Texas! Having trouble picking her out of all the other upperclassmen??? Look for that East African forehead (Ethiopian, to be specific), you won’t be able to miss it! Can’t find her at her home college, Sid Rich??? Check Wiess’ commons or the Multicultural Center in the basement of the Rice Memorial Center, I promise she’ll be at one of the two! Need some cheering up, want to grab a meal, or just need someone to take candids of you when it’s golden hour? She’s your first pick for all three and so much more! You can make a lot of bad choices in life but befriending my bestie will never be one of them! O-Week with her as your Advisor will definitely be a memory for the books! - KC Nwadei, Wiess ‘21

Chris YUM - Advisor

Chris YUM - Advisor

If you’re a gamer, love sports, and are obsessed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then you’re gonna want to spend more time with Chris Yum. He’s a senior studying Statistics and Sport Management with a minor in Business. His least favorite question is “Where are you from?” but it’s honestly the best way to get to know a guy who’s lived in 8 different places his whole life. As of now, however, he lives in Seattle. Chris served as Senator, VP, and O-Week Coord for Sid and loves to give back to the community around him. You can catch him making espresso at Chaüs or cooking up some big event for Rice’s eSports Club. Chris can be your best friend or just the guy who can sit down and have a candid conversation with. Overall, he’s just a great dude, and you’ll love him as an Advisor. - Nicholas Manning, Sid ‘20

Ariana Engles - Co-advisor (LOVETT)

Ariana Engles - Co-advisor (LOVETT)

It is my opinion in life that there is a list of people you must surround yourself with in order to succeed: a role model to look up to, a friend with infinite amounts of sage advice, and a friend to laugh endlessly with in good times and cry with, no matter the hour. Hailing from Austin, TX and finishing up her term as SA president, this Lovetteer is everything you could need in an Advisor, mentor, or friend. Despite owning five different coffee brewing methods, just being in her presence is enough to energize anyone to work harder, be kinder, and do better. If you’ve been provided the opportunity to be advised by this senior Religion major, be prepared for friendship and support to last a lifetime - Nishanth Lavendra, Sid ‘19

Henry Zhang - Advisor

Henry Zhang - Advisor

Lucky you to have Henry as your Advisor! This Computer Science and Math double major looks like a Korean pop star who does his eyeliner every day, but he is actually born with perfect eyeliner. Henry is Chinese, born and raised in Wuxi -- a city near Shanghai. He is a big fan of soccer. He gets really loud watching soccer games, so if you see him staring at his phone and suddenly start to yell you know what he’s doing. As a Sid sophomore, he tries to stay fit, but he LOVES eating ramen at midnight (especially after working out). Ask him to cook you some during late-nights! Henry tries to balance his academic life with music, Kpop dancing (he’s in Basyk), being a tour guide, and playing soccer. Henry is one of the happiest, most positive people you’ll ever met, so get ready to laugh with him! - Selena Shi, Brown ‘22

Anika Agrawal - Diversity Facilitator

Anika Agrawal - Diversity Facilitator

Did you hear that laughter on Fondy 6 (the quiet floor of the library)? Oh, that might have been Anika, laughing with ALL of her friends. As a junior Cognitive Science major, Anika is always on the pre- med grind, but that doesn’t stop her from being one of the best people you could possibly meet. A bonafide Californian from San Jose, Anika will set you straight if you call her home state Cali (apparently that’s for the tourists??). As a Rice Health Advisor and Diversity Chair at her home college Wiess, Anika cares deeply for anyone she meets, and she’s also one of YOUR DFs, so you are super lucky. While she MAY like peanut butter better than Nutella (who even is she?), she will ALWAYS be there for you for fun times, deep talks at 3 am, and hilariously obnoxious laughter in and out of the library. - C.J. Cook, Wiess ‘21

Chase Hinman - Advisor

Chase Hinman - Advisor

Chase Hinman is a lifesaver...literally. The native San Antonian pre-med is an EMS In-Charge here at Rice, and ready to sacrifice his time to make sure Rice students are safe. There’s a lot to say about Chase, but simply put, he’s a good guy. This Sidizen is always around, ready to chat on a balcony, goof around in the commons, or play a game of pool. No matter the task, this rising junior Kinesiology major brings an unmatched amount of passion and gusto to everything he does. While it’s easy to be on Chase’s good side, you can find yourself on his bad side quickly if you begin insulting Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. You are sincerely lucky to have Chase Hinman as an Advisor, because he will do everything in his power to make sure each and every new student is right at home here at Sid. - Jared Aiman, Sid ‘21

Bela Walkin - Advisor

Bela Walkin - Advisor

If you’re ever in Lake Charles, Louisiana, you may come across a framed picture of a gorgeous, tanned water polo goddess in your local gym. This, my friends, is none other than Bela Walkin. When Bela isn’t captain-ing the Rice Women’s Water Polo team, you can probably find her working with federal judges downtown, because this rising Sid senior, pre-law Econ major is all about that grind! But don’t let Bela’s intense schedule fool you - she’s always down for those ~chill vibes~. If you’re ever in need of an ice cream run to Chinatown, a quick study break to read a Buzzfeed article (or ten), a bud to watch a Lil Dicky music video with, or a convo about the French study abroad experience (aka eating croissants and wearing turtlenecks), Bela is the gal for you! She’ll steal your heart faster than her phone was stolen on the Paris metro.- Sydney Parks, Sid ’20

Krystal Cheung - Co-advisor (Lovett)

Krystal Cheung - Co-advisor (Lovett)

Originating from somewhere *not* over the rainbow (aka Topeka, Kansas), Krystal is without a doubt an absolute gem. A Lovett junior who‘s been just about every Bio-related major, Krystal now has her two and a half majors (Kinesiology, Sociology, and Global Health minor) set in stone. This dance mom loves food, adventures, and all things Disney. Get ready for the parent who can do anything: she’ll support you with her empathy, but also roast you with her sarcasm. She’s probably a couple of feet shorter than you, she can’t yell, and her vision is terrible, so it might take some effort to find her, but when you do, New Students, it’ll be more than worth it. Krystal is a genuine, caring, and open-minded person who will make your time at Rice that much brighter. - Henry Baring, Lovett ‘20

Alice Young - Advisor

Alice Young - Advisor

If you looked up the definition for the words “adorable” and “loving” in the dictionary, you’d find two words there for both: Alice Young. This bubbly, rising Sid sophomore has a huge dedication to helping others, and it’s evident through her commitment to service organizations like Camp Kesem. If you ever need a hug, this Sugarland native will be by your side in a jiffy, and if you ever want to play some Smash, paint some artsy fartsy room decor, or take some ~aesthetic~ photos, Alice is just your gal. This Biological Sciences major may seem normal on the outside, but once you get to know her, you’ll find out she’s obsessed with dog ASMRs, takes the derpiest pictures, and eats babies (ask her about it during O-Week). Needless to say, Alice is definitely a light and blessing in our lives, and she will surely be one in yours! - Lauren Kang, Lovett ‘21 and Erin Kim, Sid ’20

Evan rebesque - Advisor

Evan rebesque - Advisor

It may be a cold world, but this stud of an Advisor will definitely heat you up with his warm presence and exothermic Sriracha reactions! Evan Rebesque (’20) is a senior from Sid Richardson College majoring in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry. When he isn’t making advances in cancer immunotherapy, Evan can be seen around Sid as a welcoming presence in the commons or the off-campus lounge. Evan is also often spotted putting in work while literally grinding the gears of his bicycle as the captain of the Sid bike team... It has been rumored that he even bikes every day to and from his hometown of Los Altos, California (right outside of San Francisco)! If you still can’t reach him, try retreating into nature or venturing into Houston as he frequently does! In all, Evan is one incredible guy whom you are unbelievably lucky to have as an Advisor. - Michael Otoo, Sid ‘19

Oeishi Banerjee - Gofer

Oeishi Banerjee - Gofer

Oeishi Banerjee... where do I even begin? You’ve never met someone more down for WHATEVER than this Bay Area native. If you’re looking to go to an obscure faculty talk, a symphony, a scavenger hunt, or for someone to practice your Shakira dance moves with she’ll be by your side in a heartbeat. If this junior COMP/PSYCH double major isn’t at office hours or her research lab in the BRC you’ll probably find her rock climbing or walking out of the servery with 8 bananas in her arms. Despite the fact that homegirl is CHRONICALLY late, she’s always more than happy to chat or lend a listening ear so hit her up for coffee or lunch for a guaranteed good time. You’re so lucky to have one of the most genuine people at Sid Rich as your Advisor - just one piece of advice, don’t get into a car with her.- Medha Gupta, Sid ‘21

Dylan Riddell

Dylan Riddell

Sid Rich’s own Dylan ”Dillon” “Pickle” “Riddle” Riddell hails from Charlotte, North Carolina, and as an ex- cross-country runner, he could probably make the journey on foot. Dylan’s the president and star player of Rice’s nationally ranked ultimate frisbee team, so he must keep in great shape. You can catch him running loops around Rice’s campus most nights. This Sid junior frisbee stud can also be found studying for his Civil Engineering classes, playing card games with his closest friends, or losing in Madden. If you get the chance, have Dylan sing for you: he’s a member of the Acapella group “The Apollos” and will wow you with his angelic voice. He may not respect “what are the odds,” but Dylan Riddell is a great friend who’s always there for you when you need him and certain to lighten your day with his quirky sense of humor. - Andrew Ledet and Zach Moxley, Sid ‘21

Jarett Prchal - Co-advisor (Hanszen)

Jarett Prchal - Co-advisor (Hanszen)

Jarrett Prchal, a sophomore from Hanszen College, comes with a host of quirks and enough energy to let them show. If you catch him on pretty much any day, you will likely hear him singing whatever song he has stuck in his head as he walks back from class. Originally from Glenview, Illinois, Jarrett keeps busy as an Associate Justice, a head of the Spirit Committee, and representing on the intramural fields. Always excited for an impromptu adventure to the Hoot, the rec pool, or out into Houston, Jarrett often allows FOMO to interfere with his Mechanical Engineering studies and will jump at an opportunity to put off his work until late in the evening. Reach out to talk to him about anything, and he’ll be happy to lend an ear or keep talking deep into the night. - Chris Lee, Hanszen ’22

Nicole Tan - Advisor

Nicole Tan - Advisor

There may be only twenty-four discrete hours in the day to most of us, but don’t tell that to junior Electrical Engineering major Nicole Tan, who hails from Ambler, Pennsylvania. Her schedule is a seemingly continuous-time signal of hours spent writing recursive Java functions, computing Fourier Coefficients, and prototyping at the OEDK. But don’t let all this nerd-speak fool you, as a two year veteran of Sid’s 7th floor and former Dance Team member, Nicole won’t hesitate to throw down some sick moves on the dance floor. However, her true spectrum really shines through in the friendships she has with everyone she meets. Perhaps her secret to getting so much done is all the Mac n’ Cheese she eats on a daily basis. So, get hyped for O-Week, because you really couldn’t ask for a better Advisor. Just don’t look for her after O-Week lunches, because Nicole will probably be napping until dinner. - Tucker Reinhardt, Sid ‘21

Trevor Egerton - Advisor

Trevor Egerton - Advisor

Whether he’s sifting through Fondren Library’s historical archives or unearthing a fire ant hill, Trevor Egerton digs deep. As a *true* History major (you’ll often see him sporting a sweater with elbow patches) and aspiring doctor (he can be your personal WebMD), catch him on the constant grind working on his thesis or med school applications. To decompress, Trevor has taken up weight lifting at the Rec and “might buy protein powder this summer.” Hailing from Austin, Texas, this Sid Rich senior is a lover of the outdoors and could be described as a kindred spirit of John Muir or Teddy Roosevelt. If you have the honor to have Trevor as your Advisor, get ready for ~dad vibes~ complete with baseball cap and T-ball coach enthusiasm! - Christina Brown, Sid ‘20 and Benjamin Klimko, Sid ‘19

Tina Liu - Historian

Tina Liu - Historian

Love spontaneous power naps? Are sappy romance movies your guilty pleasure? Then you’ll definitely get along with the one and only Tina Liu! When this Sociology and Visual Arts major from Houston, Texas (although she was born in Denver) isn’t studying or napping, you can catch her making spreads for the Thresher or designing mobile apps. Tina is sure to add some aesthetic to your life with her amazing photography skills and 10/10 style. Anyone lucky enough to call Tina their friend knows that she’s as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. You can always count on her for great advice, a greater sense of humor, and the greatest stash of free snacks...just don’t count on her to be on time. Get to know one of the coolest juniors at Sid, and I promise you won’t regret it. - Carrigan Hudgins, Sid ‘21

Loren Goddard - Co-Advisor (Hanszen)

Loren Goddard - Co-Advisor (Hanszen)

NOT LAUREN, but Loren is just as unique as the spelling. This dedicated member of Hanszen College and the class of 2021 calls Austin her home but has traveled to more countries than you can count on both hands. Far distances are also familiar with her during the semester, so don’t forget to say hi when you see her running on the outer loop with the rest of the cross country and track team. This Civil Engineering major keeps herself busy by attending Engineers Without Borders meetings, Chi Alpha small group, practice, and giving tours to prospective students but would stop in a heartbeat to chat in Coffeehouse about life or how good the iced Milky Ways are. She is an all-around compassionate, fun-loving soul and is going to make an amazing Co-Advisor! - Natalie Goddard, Duncan ‘21

Group 5

Stefano Romano - Advisor

Stefano Romano - Advisor

His jokes are fresh, his mind is sharp, and his calves are huge. Stefano Romano is truly a man that lives up to his name. His bottomless tank of energy (partly due to the coffee he drinks, but mostly coming from his unrivaled optimism) gives him the fuel to give 110% to everything he does. If he’s not DJ-ing the hottest party on campus, you’ll find him simultaneously crunching numbers for an internship, writing an essay, and doing homework all while upholding justice at Rice through the Honor Council. There’s not a single Sidizen who hasn’t heard of him and there’s a good reason; this suave and ambitious statistician really makes an impression. Stefano is a Sid senior majoring in Statistics and Economics, and hails from the “well-known city” of Greensboro, North Carolina. Don’t miss out on meeting this ~cultured~ (he studied abroad I think?), one-handed-clapping wonder during O-Week! - Leo Takagi, Sid ‘20

Grace Wickerson - Diversity Facilitator

Grace Wickerson - Diversity Facilitator

Who is Grace Wickerson? Hippie. Vegan. Environmentalist. Queer. Material Science and Nanoengineering Major. Political activist. Non-profit founder. Student Association President. As a rising senior, Grace has done a lot on Rice’s campus in the past three years since moving from Englewood, FL. But I’m here to tell you that Grace is so much more. Grace is the most selfless, compassionate, and caring person I’ve ever met and I’m not just saying that because they’re my fellow Brown College member and O-Week sibling. If you ever wanna learn Taekwondo, they’re always willing to give you a lesson. Love zombie video games? Stop by Grace’s room for some spooky gayming! Wanna explore Houston’s vegan scene? Grace LOVES food and trying new things! There’s never a dull moment when you’re with this terrible pun fiend. Even though they seem like a superhero with all of their responsibilities, no one has a bigger heart and is more down-to-earth than Grace. - Justin Bishop, Brown ‘20

Katie Nguyen - Advisor

Katie Nguyen - Advisor

If Katie Nguyen were a greek letter, she would be alpha. This Sid Rich sophomore from St. Louis is the most outspoken and compassionate person there is; she’s genuine in a way you can’t help but love! If she could, she’d probably sign up for 100 credit hours: her obsession with schedule planner is the stuff of legend. She loves art history and Latin American studies, and is currently an Art History/Social Policy Analysis double-major. Katie’s passion for social issues and community involvement are super inspirational, and that combined with her radiant smile and crazy energy make her the best friend anyone could ask for! - Johnston French, Sid ‘22

Ruben Egstathiou - Advisor

Born in France and raised on two different islands—Britain and Cyprus—Ruben Efstathiou is definitely the most well-travelled in his suite at Sid. This Greek and Vietnamese Bioengineering sophomore lovesto play the guitar and drums as the leader of his band. Back home, he’s an expert windsurfer, a model, and even owns his own company! But on campus, you’ll probably catch him speeding by on his electric longboard on his way to the gym. Don’t be surprised when you see him walking out of the Sid Servery carrying two plates piled high with food—he loves to eat. The first thing you might notice about him is his British accent, but don’t let that fool you; he’s anything but posh. Ruben is excited for O-Week, and you should be too, because this amazing, compassionate, adventurous guy is your advisor - Sean Smith, Sid ‘22

Catalina Santamaria - Co-advisor (Duncan)

Catalina Santamaria - Co-advisor (Duncan)

Catalina is one of the best people I can think of to welcome new students to Rice. This passionate Houstonian, who originally hails from Colombia, is a rising junior at Duncan College and is the most extra Sport Management major you’ll ever meet, claiming that if she’s not 15 minutes early to class, she’s late. She is a joy to be around and somehow knows just about everyone on campus. If you want to find Catalina, she’s either taking a nap or at an event for one of the 80 clubs she’s involved with. Let’s just say that finding Catalina isn’t easy, but she’ll always be able to find you, because she’ll ask to share iPhone locations with you within a week. Although she thinks lettuce is spicy and that Austria is in the Middle East, she is still quite the person to be around and, she’ll make your O-Week one that you’ll always remember. - Andrew Abikhaled, Jones ‘21

Be prepared to laugh, cry, and sing along to every 2000s banger. - Isabel Wiatt, Sid ‘22

Tucker Reinhardt - Advisor

Tucker Reinhardt - Advisor

Tucker Reinhardt is the buffest potato you will ever meet; his favorite way to procrastinate his Electrical Engineering problem sets and Computer Science projects is to go to lift at the rec, so that it seems like he’s doing something productive. When he’s fully committed to being unproductive, catch this native Houstonian making late night runs to Whataburger or marathoning the Harry Potter movies for the millionth time. As a junior at Sid Rich, Tucker is broadening his horizons by playing new Smash characters just as he is broadening his horizons with networking in the tech industry. This budding engineer already is halfway done with his college career; he’s always open to sharing his fondest memories of his first two years, as well as his personal advice for overcoming some college’s greatest obstacles. You should count yourself lucky to have Tucker as your Advisor--just as lucky as he is whenever he plays Catan. - Nicole Tan and Zach Moxley, Sid ‘21

Megha Reddy - Co-advisor (Martel)

Megha Reddy - Co-advisor (Martel)

CONGRATS! You just hit the Co-Advisor jackpot with Megha Reddy. Megha is an adventure-loving sophomore Mechanical Engineering AND VADA double major hailing from Great Neck, New York. When she’s not grinding outside Brochstein or Fondy, you can find her with friends from her home college, Martel. It doesn’t stop there, you can also find her around campus giving wonderful tours to prospective families. If a room seems too quiet, it is probably because Megha’s not there or maybe she’s just in the corner sipping a Chai Latte. If you catch her on her phone when she should be paying attention, don’t worry, all she’s doing is Postmating the newest taco from Velvet Taco. Knowing Megha, she will become just as involved at Sid as she is at Martel. Her new students should be excited and REDDY for O-Week, because she sure is! - Sukul Mittal, Martel ‘22

Bradley Gneiting - Athlete Afiliate

Bradley Gneiting - Athlete Afiliate

Bradley Gneiting’s fatal flaw is that he’s too thoughtful for his own good. If he avoids your table at lunch and eats by himself, it may seem like he hates you, but he just doesn’t want to impose himself on an already crowded table. He always wants to make others happy, so he will rarely say no to a game of pool or cards; if he does, it’s probably the 3 months of the year he goes into hiding at Reckling Park. Growing up in Fort Worth, Bradley started playing baseball at seven. He now plays right field for the Owls while balancing work for his Economics major. Unfortunately, Sid will need a new main act for Floor Wars Karaoke as Bradley will be graduating in 2020, but I’m sure he will be showing the videos until the day he dies. Just ask. - Amanda Spitzer, Sid ‘20

But most importantly, she is fun and caring, which will make her the perfect Advisor for you! - Francesca Shuffer, Hanszen ‘20

As a Sport Management and Political Science double-major, she’s interned with awesome organizations like the National Women’s Hockey League and the Houston Dash. But when not interning, you can find Emily playing club soccer, working out at the gym, or watching some good old-fashioned TV shows like The West Wing. In the past two years, she’s already been to Jordan and Israel to learn more about international politics, with plans to go to Paris this summer! This Sid junior is always ready to make time for you and give you the best advice whenever you need it. Alp Yakici - Co-Advisor (Hanszen)

Alp Yakici - Co-Advisor (Hanszen)

No, sadly this Alp is not the mountain range we all love so dearly. This one here is Alp Yakici from Istanbul, Turkey. He is a sophomore Computer Science Major from Hanszen College with a beard to prove it. In his free time, while listening to Panic! at the Disco, Coldplay, and Queen at max volume, you can find him in Hanszen commons writing algorithms and designing websites, or working with his Eclipse rocket team in OEDK. Do not hesitate to harass him with any COMP questions - or anything about being an international student at Rice. If you are not lucky enough to have him as your Co-Advisor, catch him speed walking across campus on his daily commute in between OEDK, Chaus, Duncan Hall, Sid, and Hanszen with his AirPods in. P.S.: Do not let him start talking about how much he likes Computer Science. He will not stop. - Dylan Chorley, Sid ‘22
