Executive Committee
Each Sunday at 7:30 PM, Sidizens gather in the commons to eat snacks, talk with friends, and hear about what is going on within their community and government. Each council has a “theme”, provided by the Floor Reps who are in charge of buying food for that week’s Council. Students are encouraged to attend and give their input, as many important decisions both within Sid and the greater Rice community are discussed here. There are two parts of the Sid College Government: the Executive Committee (which meets Tuesdays at 9 PM) and Council, headed by the Executive Council.
College Court
The College Court system is designed on the principal that students govern and monitor one another. Thus, when you have an issue (noise complaints, out of control parties, etc.) please contact an Associate Justice or the Chief Justice first as opposed to RUPD. This tends to mediate issues much better and leads to more constructive outcomes for everyone involved. In addition, if you plan on having a private gathering involving alcoholic beverages, text one of us (whomever you feel most comfortable with) and let us know.
Council Representatives
These are the members of Sid who represent Sidizens by voting at Council. Each class has three representatives. It is the job of each of these representatives to inform their constituents of what is happening at Sid, meet with them (virtually), and host events (virtually). Class representatives are in charge of organizing events for their class during these hard times. The council representatives will also vote on behalf of their class for new Sid legislation and new building procedures.
Floor Reps
Campus Representatives
These are our Sidizens who represent us in various student organizations across campus. Our SA Senator represents us at Senate every Monday and makes sure to inform Sidizens about what is going on in the Student Association every Tuesday at Council. Our RPC Rep makes sure to keep Sidizens informed about upcoming RPC events and about how Sidizens can get involved in RPC. Our University Court Rep represents Sid as a voting member on Student Judicial Programs cases. If you have any questions about SJP or SJP cases, feel free to ask them! Our Honor Council Rep represents Sid as a voting member on Honor Council cases. If you have questions about the Honor Council or Honor Code, feel free to ask them. Our Student Maintenance Rep is our liaison between Sid and H&D. They are here to help you with basic H&D services, such as lofting your bed. Feel free to ask them any H&D related questions. Our OIT Ambassador helps Sidizens with their IT related problems, serving as a liaison between Sid and the Office of Information Technology. If the basement printer is out of paper, you know who to talk to. Feel free to talk to them about any tech-related questions.
