Overview of Move-In Day

To start O-Week, prepare to arrive in the morning on Sunday, August 18th. As the move-in date approaches, we will send you specific information about the time you should arrive to make the move-in process as seamless as possible. When arriving to campus on Sunday morning, please take Entrance 4 and make an immediate right into the South Lot parking lot. Once you’ve made it into the parking lot, it will be obvious where to go! Just head towards the most EXCITED Sid Advisors jumping and yelling your name! Other Advisors will come up to your car, maps-in-hand, ready to provide directions on where to park. Meanwhile, you can hop out of your car and walk into Sid for the first time! And don’t worry about moving your things, as another crew of hardworking Advisors will be efficiently unloading your car and bringing your items to your room for you.

As you are walking into your new home, you first will meet our lovely College Coordinator Lisa Galloy. She will pass along the keys to your room with a warm smile, and then will get your picture taken with Sid’s college crest to commemorate the day. Then you will head up the tower to your room, where your belongings will already be waiting for you. You will have the remainder of the morning to begin unpacking your things and meet your roommate or bathroom mates. Around lunch time, you will change into your O-Week shirt and come down to Sid Commons to enjoy a meal. After lunch time, it will be time to say a final goodbye to your family and meet your O-Week group. While your loved ones attend New Families Orientation, your memorable, first week at Rice will begin!

Your Room At Sid

At Sid, there are both double and single rooms. Most New Students can expect to be living in a double. Double rooms have an attached private bathroom for just you and your roommate. Single rooms will share a private bathroom across the hallway with two to three other people. We encourage you to make your room feel like home by bringing items from home, but keep in mind that you will likely be living in a shared space and this space is limited. If you have a roommate, be sure to reach out and coordinate what you and your roommate will be bringing to Sid. You can always purchase smaller items from the Target close by, but be sure to have the majority of your items by move-in day as the week will be busy and you will not have time to run to the store after move-in.

Before you arrive, please be sure to label ALL of your belongings with the following pieces of information:

  1. First and last name

  2. Room number

  3. O-Week Group Name

Every item you bring, no matter how small, will be moved by our Advisors so please be sure to label everything!!!

You will receive your room number and your O-Week Group Name from us, by email, in late July.
