Gospel Ibe (he/him) - Jones Co-Advisor

Sidizens, get hyped because you have THE Gospel Ibe as your Co-Advisor! This Wylie, Texas native, is the most humble and amazing O-Week Co-Advisor you could ask for. Gospel is an academic machine studying Kinesiology on the Pre-Med track. This junior from Jones College is also an absolute basketball stud, and you will find him regularly tearing it up in 2k or on the intramural court for his home college, Jones. Gospel lives and breathes Let it SnO-Week; he is always ICED out with some of the coldest fits you will ever see, complete with a fanny pack, aka utility satchel. If you are SNOWed in, this man will serenade you with a piano, guitar, or his smooth voice (request All of Me by John Legend and try not to swoon). Gospel is always the life of the party, and you are in good hands with him as your O-Week Co-Advisor!

-Savannah Tiemann Sid '23, Rusty Ludwigsen Sid '23

Kaitlyn Trushenski (she/her) - Advisor

Kaitlyn is a hilarious, genius, caring, and empathetic junior (Sid ’24) from The Woodlands, Texas. She’s majoring in Computational and Applied Mathematics and minoring in Data Science. While she is an insanely awesome woman in STEM, Kaitlyn is so much more! She has a passion for political science and speaks German. Be warned, though. Unless you feel like crying, don’t challenge her to pool or Anagrams (she’s super competitive and too good at everything)! If you are looking for someone to discuss public policy, coding, or funny cat videos with, she’s your girl. And please, as her roommate for several years now, try and teach her about TikTok, Vine, and celebrities as much as you can (she has a lot of catching up to do lol).

-Ella McBee Sid '24

Scott Koh (he/him) - Advisor

Studying for his Health Sciences class on Sid’s 12th floor commons while sitting on the “stolen” patio furniture (ask him to explain), Scott's phone buzzes and rattles against the table. It's his sister asking if he wants a banh mi for dinner. Scott will drop l-i-t-e-r-a-l-l-y everything for a good pork w/o jalapeños (because he has a nonexistent spice tolerance, but he's Korean?) banh mi. When Scott isn't devouring his favorite food, he is a member of HEALAR (Health Sciences at Rice), a Class Representative for Sid Richardson’s Council, a Rice tour guide, and a part of Rice Emergency Medical Services! This rising sophomore from Houston, Texas might not know how to navigate anywhere except the two streets next to his house, but he is a great person to vent to anything about and will always be there to listen to you at any time. Bonus if you like volleyball; he is always down for a quick rally in the quad. Y’all new students will be lucky to have him :)

Lauren Hurt (she/her) - Advisor + Athletic Affiliate

*Yeah! By Usher starts to play*

Standing at 5’9 180lb, this rising junior and Business & Sports Management major from Sid Richardson College will whip and nae nae her way to greet you. It’s hard to miss seeing this overenthusiastic swimmer, and you definitely won’t miss hearing her! She’ll walk through the commons and give you a nice and hearty “BELLOOOOOOO” and if you can handle it, a big chest bump. You’ll never meet anyone with more Sid Spirit, or anyone with less real teeth in our college (go Beer Bike!!!). Moreover, hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, everyone will tell you that Lauren is the life of every party. She's also able to produce any and all noises at will (including Perry the Platypus and R2D2’s scream). Jokes aside, she is the most down to earth, funny, and sweet friend one could ever ask for, and definitely someone that you’d want to meet in life.

-Ethan Kao Sid '24

Rudy Carreon (he/him) - Advisor + Gopher

Serving it outside, right side, or with oat milk, it’s Rudy Carreon! This Dallas baddie is majoring in Kinesiology, focusing on Sports Medicine, and minoring in having the jumps. As a junior from Sid, he knows his way around campus (and directly to Coffeehouse) and dedicates his time outside of classes to being a libero on the Rice Men’s Volleyball team and existing at a Starbucks. Which Starbucks that happens to be is actually a government secret. Rudy is a Class-A, Stand-up, Sit-down, Knockout of a fantastic human being and WILL be the fun guy at every party. If you want to learn about coffee, brunch, and how to survive driving from Dallas to Houston, he's your guy! Also, talk to him about Pokémon; if you don’t have a good time, he sure will.

-Margo Gee Brown ‘24

Charlotte Lo (she/her) - Advisor

Schitts’ Creek? Friends? Business Proposal? If you’re looking for someone to watch sitcoms or K-dramas with and laugh until you start crying, Charlotte’s your girl! This senior Kinesiology Sports Medicine premed is the perfect person to go to for life advice, to explore restaurants with, or to hear the best Moira Rose impression. Hailing from Shaker Heights, Ohio, this lover of dichotomies, yuzu sake ice cream from Van Leeuwen’s, and running the Outer Loop, can help you with anything from making the perfect Earl Grey tea (trust me she’s watched British Bake Off) to Biochemistry (even if you ask her to recite the citric acid cycle at 3 am) to saving your life (Rice Emergency Medical Services queen!). But most importantly, you can always count on her to be there for you. Charlotte is caring, down-to-earth, and beautiful on the inside and out. You’re incredibly lucky to have her as your Advisor!

-Anika Sonig Sid ‘23

Nat Hill (he/him) - Jones Co-Advisor

Drainer Alert!!

Hear ye, hear ye: It’s the notorious N-A-T

Sir William Nathaniel “Nat” Hill is a resident of New York City #okay. He went to Brooklyn Technical High School (aka Grand Army High). Nathaniel is a Jones sophomore (JIBA!) studying Computer Science and Math.

Take a look at his hair, now back here — don’t be fooled by his luscious locks; he is also an avid jorts wearer. Make sure to ask for rides in his “vintage” beamer; he’ll love showing you his favorite spots around HTX and his expansive CD collection. You can always depend on Nat. If he doesn't pick up the phone, don’t hesitate to leave a voicemail — you’re in for a special treat. Nat’s not too hard to find slinking around campus. If you see a gorgeous goofball with a giant thermos full of coffee, it’s probably Nat.

P.S. he has a cat named Muffin

Amy He (she/her) - Advisor

Who’s that walking around Sid with either a cup of boba or Starbucks in hand? Meet Amy He! This sophomore from Rockville, Maryland is a Mathematical Economic Analysis major and Business minor (although her indecisiveness has made her excel at creating four-year plans exploring different majors in nearly every field). When this night owl isn’t busy taking naps to make up for her sleep deprivation, she can be found working at her many on-campus jobs, two of which include being a campus tour guide and a bobarista for East West Tea. If you ever want to play volleyball in the quad, learn about the cleanliness of water sources at Sid (you’ll hear a lot about that), or talk about anything in general, Amy is the perfect person to go to. Be ready to hear endless amounts of unique lingo and slay every day with the best O-Week Advisor at Sid!

-Alice Zhou Martel '25

Arie Ogranovich (he/him) - McMurtry Co-Advisor

If you thought cake shakes and deep dish pizza were the best things to come from (the suburbs of) Chicago, think again because you obviously haven’t met Arie Ogranovich from McMurtry. When he’s not drinking absurd amounts of milk and embezzling drinks from Coffeehouse, he’s busy baking cookies for his friends, zooming at bike practice, or dyeing his hair. Spotting Arie is easy if you know whether he’s in his bald phase or his fluffy purple-red hair phase - but who knows by O-Week. You’ll also find this junior vibing in the math lounge, simultaneously claiming free food (that’s a theme) and being an absolute MathematicsMajor™ god. His vibe sessions also extend to philosophical conversations, basking outside Brochstein, karaoke to Bleachers songs, and the occasional morning swims at the gym. Outside of his shenanigans, Arie is truly the most genuine, caring, and wholesome person and you are incredibly lucky to have him as your Co-Advisor.

-Evan Huang Lovett '24, Morike Ayodeji McMurtry '24

Jaylin Vinson (he/him) - Advisor

Jaylin Vinson is an adorable sophomore and Composition major at the Shepherd School of music from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While Jaylin’s reserved nature may surprise you, he is a real firecracker inside. He is very fun, social, quick-witted, and a good friend if you take the time to break through his mysterious outer shell. Unfortunately, like all Shepherdites, he spends an ungodly amount of time locked up in Shepherd working on his next big symphony. Thankfully it is all worthwhile when he introduces you to his musically talented friends and invites you to listen to his compositions. In Jaylin you will find a silly, passionate, dependable friend, and will always be there to have deep and interesting conversations with you.

-Campbell Uyeki Sid '25

Angela Lin (she/her) - Advisor

If you're looking for someone who’s always got your back, whether as a friend, study buddy, or EMS Incharge queen, Angela Lin is your ultimate go-to girl crush ;) As a senior reigning from Ridgefield, Connecticut, Angela brings the cold weather to you with her icy cool presence. Interested in Biochem? Pre-med? EMS? Poverty and justice? Viola? Deep talks? Sid Rich pride? Angela’s got it all, having experienced much in her past three years at Rice, combined with her chill, humble yet fun personality. Additionally, Angela's got your back if you ever need a study buddy or someone to go cafe exploring with. You’d honestly be missing out on your Rice experience without her. She truly brings out the fun in everyone and makes those around her feel comfy. I can’t wait for you all to have my amazing, intentional, fun-loving friend as your O-Week Advisor!

-Kristine Yuan McMurtry ‘23

Corey Donovan (he/him) - Hanszen Co-Advisor

Well well well... Unfortunately, you've been dealt the worst cards in America and now have Corey Donovan as your O-Week Advisor. JUUUSSTTT KIDDINGGG CONGRATU-FRACKING-LATIONS YOU HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH THE COOLEST, SMARTEST, KINDEST, LOWKEY WEIRD BUT SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE, TALL WHITE BOY OF THE MONTH! He is a junior at Hanszen College majoring in Mathematical Economic Analysis. Be prepared to listen to his obsession with the Celtics and Patriots and how he's "from Boston'' at least 100 times a day. Although he religiously sports the same Boston College jersey, he promises that he does, in fact, do his laundry... AND although his LinkedIn bio makes him seem like an East Coast business frat boy, his broom-stick-like proportions and warm heart will make you feel at home and loved!

-Ellie Cha Hanszen '25

Jared Duran (he/him) - Advisor

Meet Jared Duran, a sophomore from Albuquerque, New Mexico, a man of many talents, and one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet on campus. He’s a hot young DJ in the game at KTRU (Rice’s radio station). He’s a certified hunk, setting PRs at the gym and putting up Lance-Armstrong-like times on the bike track (without the performance-enhancing drugs!). He’s also a Computer Science major, and you can often find him working hard in the 2nd floor study room. He has an unrivaled ability to get to know people; strike up a conversation with him, and you might just spend two hours discussing the political implications of gerrymandering or the meaning of life. He’s so easy to talk to and truly is an incredible friend and an even better human being. Just never ask him to cook a steak. He might end up lighting the Sid kitchen on fire again.

-Pratyush Mohapatra Sid ‘25

Priya Trakru (she/her) - Advisor

This gorgeous senior hailing from Brownsville, Texas has some of the most expressive eyes I have ever seen and the best selfie angle you will ever see (ask her to take a selfie with you to see what I mean). She’ll stop your heart with her beauty, then start it again with her mad Emergency Medical Service skills. You’ll find that she’s a jack of many trades: she’s dual-majoring in Biosciences and History, a Sid Head Peer Academic Advisor, and even a talented cancer researcher at M.D. Anderson. Priya’s one weakness is her love for caffeine, whether that’s Peach Vibe Celsius, cold brew with almond milk and sugar-free vanilla, or Starbies Honey Citrus Mint Tea. Whether you’re looking for someone to send you the best TikToks, to lose to for chess, or just someone unbelievably reliable, Priya is your gal! Group 4, get ready to meet the most funny, generous, and “immaculate” Sid Advisor!

This just means her interests are so vast that you are bound to find something in common with her. You can spot this superstar making all her shots on the basketball court, studying diligently with friends at Fondy, or baking the best cookies in Sid Kitchen. If you need someone to talk to, Audrey is one of the most thoughtful listeners you will ever find. She’s also the best adventure and study buddy, whether it’s singing in the car on the way to late night food or hyping you up for your next test. Get ready to make some of the best memories you will ever have with this amazing Advisor!

Akshat Rathi (he/him) - Martel Co-Advisor

Akshat Rathi is a junior majoring in Computer Science and Economics. He's from Martel, the greatest college to ever exist. Back home, he hails from Phoenix, Arizona (go Suns!!!). That said, he's into a lot of sports like football, basketball, and cricket. Pull up to the b-ball courts at the Rec center, and he'll cross you up like I'm Devin Booker. You can also catch him listening to hip-hop and rap a lot, too — Drake is the GOAT, and Jack Harlow doesn't miss either.

A Neuroscience major and a pre-med queen, this rising sophomore at Sid is witty, friendly, and always ready to offer a helping hand or a freshly baked tray of cinnamon rolls to those in need. While she may appear small in stature, the height of her compassion and dedication to the Rice community is unmatched by even her gloriously tall residential college. After just one year at Rice, Laura and her fish, Gerald, have solidified their honorable reputations within the Sid community, so you know you can depend on her to set you up for success. Laura is your gal whether you need academic support, reality TV expertise, or inspiration for Robert-Pattinson-themed wall decor. CONGRATULATIONS on nabbing the best Advisor of the bunch, and prepare for the best O-Week ever !!

-Leah Gomez Sid ‘25

Shelby DesRoches (she/her) - Advisor + Athletic Affiliate

Congratulations on winning the Advisor jackpot!!! This senior Sidizen (no relation to our core team) is one of the funniest and most caring people at Rice. Hailing from Atlanta, Shelby’s great smile and personality brings out the best in everyone: no joke! If you need any help with time management, Shelby’s your person: she’s a star of the soccer team and president of the Caribbean Student Society while ALSO being a Bioengineering major and pre-med. But just because she’s busy doesn’t mean she doesn’t have time for you. Shelby’s always willing to try new places to eat, bond over a Cheese-y Gordita Crunch, or watch Euphoria with you. To earn a special place in her heart, you should ask her about her love for dressing up as Shrek! I’m positive that Shelby will make sure that O-Week is the best week of your life!

-Andrew Graziano Sid ‘23

Sam Lee (he/him)- Advisor

Voted "Most Unconventionally Humorous" by the New York Times for 40 consecutive years and the living embodiment of the internationally known "Work Hard but Eat Harder" campaign, meet Sam Lee, the best O-Week Advisor you can ask for. Transplanted from San Diego, this self-proclaimed athlete & junior pre-med Neuroscience major is the one to look for when you are hungry at 2 AM or just need someone to talk to. From navigating your journey at Rice to figuring out your love life, Sam will be there to make your life a bit more fun, memorable, and delicious.

Kelton Keck (he/him) - Advisor + Historian

Kelton Q. Keck once won an award for being the most “not like other guys” guy at Rice, but he refused to attend the ceremony because it was too normal for him. His one claim to fame is serving Hank Green in his hometown of Missoula, Montana, but I guess he never watched the Crash Course video called “How to Take Pictures with Celebrities," so we don’t actually know if it happened. This INTJ, enneagram type 1, proud sophomore is never seen without his camera or beanie. He’s very into film photography, so be prepared to smile for a picture or be blinded by the flash throughout O-Week. You should ask him why he clarifies he does “still-life” photography if all photos are still. Beware though, this may earn you a very annoyed glare and an hour long lecture about different photography terms. Beyond his eye for the camera, he’s a very witty and funny person, as well as an intensely driven and passionate computer science major. He’ll always be ready to help you out in any way and will be a great O-Week Advisor.

-Katherine Jeng Hanszen '25

Sienna Tu (she/her) - Advisor

Congratulations New Students, you really hit the jackpot to get Sienna as an Advisor! Hailing from Bergen County, New Jersey, this sophomore Cognitive Sciences major, Data Science, and Earth, Environmental & Planetary Sciences minor wears a lot of hats around campus. As marketing manager at East West Tea, Rice’s student-run boba spot, and an avid creator of Sid merch, Sienna loves making Tiktoks, and you can always find her on her iPad sketching new ideas. She’s truly dedicated to the Sid community as a class representative and Beer Bike float committee chair-- ask her about somehow making Sid’s float from scratch in only a few days. Sienna’s always there if you need a goodie bag of snacks to help study for an exam, a buddy to take the stairs with, or a chat about anything from her dog Louie to Conan Gray (she saw him live!). Get hype, because your O-Week will include this insanely creative, larger than life (5’2” but with 6’5” energy), and enormously friendly Advisor.

-Alex Kornblum Sid ‘25

Clara Ursic (she/her) - McMurtry Co-Advisor

You might be wondering what would happen if Greta Thunberg and Dominic Fike were to give birth to a child. Now give that child purple hair and a concerning cat addiction, and you have Portland, Oregon native Clara Ursic. But the essential question still lingers: “how does this effervescent, awe-inspiring individual spend her time?” Well, in addition to being one of the roughly 5 Astrophysics majors in Rice’s class of 2024, Clara spends her days sneaking shift drinks to her friends at Coffeehouse, seducing Rice University with the language of love (French), and listening to music that’s more underground than George Washington’s grave. Always with a contagious smile and fire earrings, Clara juggles spearheading campus-wide environmental initiatives and aiding students from her home college McMurtry as Peer Academic Advisor. She might not know who Kendrick Lamar is, but there’s one thing she DOES know: how to be a goated Advisor!

-Naman Dandia McMurtry '24

Sara Koh (she/her) - Advisor

Sara. Nope, it’s not spelled wrong (don’t put the h!), but even if you do, Sara will let you slide because she’s the sweetest person you will meet at Rice! This senior majoring in Asian Studies and Cell Biology & Genetics is involved in everything: you can see her driving around campus saving lives in her Rice Emergency Medical Services uniform, interviewing the next generation of Rice Pre-Medical Society officers in Fondren, napping on any surface she can find, and even jamming with her guitar at Sid. Don’t be afraid to reach out to her despite her packed schedule because she is the best listener and gives great advice, from academics to even your love life! As a Houstonian, Sara can also show you all the best boba and dessert places. Sara will make sure you have the best college experience and can’t wait to show you everything Rice has to offer!

-Audrey Lee '25

Graham Waterstraat (he/him) - Advisor

Graham Waterstraat is a sophomore from Chicago and is majoring in Neuroscience. You can find him hanging around Sid or at the Rice Urban Agriculture garden. As an RUA External Vice President, he is a great person to ask about garden hours and how to get involved with the garden! Always interested in a good laugh or a deep conversation, Graham is easy to talk to about a wide breadth of topics, from music to school, to sports.

–Benji Otting Sid ‘25

Michelle Moya Aceves (she/her) - Duncan Co-Advisor

CONGRATS on having the absolute best Co-Advisor from DUNCAN!!!! Michelle towers at a height of 5’2 – but don’t doubt her ability to square up if you mention her height. She came in a triple-major because she couldn’t confine herself to a sole path, but majoring in Computer Science, minoring in Business, and obtaining a Chinese Certificate will do for now. When she isn’t glued to her phone reading 100,000+ words of fanfics (in both English and Spanish- we love a Mexican polyglot), showing off her god-tier whistling skills, catching up on BTS content (her bias is Jimin), or quoting all 8 Harry Potter movies, you can catch Michelle vibing and being an absolute joy to everyone around with her exquisite humor and impeccable vibes. As a sophomore, she’s been in your shoes most recently, so don’t doubt her advice! She can't wait to meet you all soon!!

-Jenn Nguyen Duncan '25, Precious Akinrinmade Duncan '25, Henry Tran Duncan '25, and Elizabeth Quach Duncan '25

This senior Mechanical Engineering major has worked at NASA to send astronauts into space and has even sat in Mission Control! Outside of her impressive experiences, Emily Ellison is also one of the most easy-going, thoughtful, and supportive people you will ever meet. You’re bound to find something in common with this amazing sweetheart, whether it's racing for Sid’s Beer Bike team, studying at the tall tables on the 1st floor of Sid, or dancing to middle school bops on Sid’s terrace. Born and raised in Houston, Emily is always down to show you the best parts of Houston and can probably convince you to invest in a good pair of cowboy boots. Get ready to make amazing O-Week memories with this smart, genuine, and fun Advisor!

-Sara Koh Sid ‘23

Victoria Chang (she/her) - Advisor

Vicky? Vicky Slicky? Vicky Slicky Vchang? That’s Victoria Chang, and with her whopping height of 5 ft 2 and ¾ in, she isn’t afraid to throw punches at your knees. All jokes aside, while this Sid junior majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology might not be gifted vertically in stature, her wisdom and loving personality reaches an unimaginable height. She is a gal with a great sense of humor, a great taste in music, and an even better collection of cat pics. She is the person to go to when you want to celebrate the little victories or when you need a shoulder to cry on. With an impeccable fashion sense, this gal from Vermont (now living in Cali) is always down to try new things and will be your number one cheerleader. With Vicky as your Advisor, you’ll always have a good time even in the mundane times (and be spammed with cat pics at unhinged hours)!

Siddhi is a rising sophomore majoring in Mathematical Economic Analysis (or is it Computer Science? or Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality?) from St. Louis, Missouri. When she’s not busy being on every pre-[insert career] track possible, Siddhi is serving Sid as Senator (#slay), going on coffee runs (caffeine is the key to her heart), or dyeing her hair with her friends. There’s never a dull moment with Siddhi; whether she’s frantically trying to silence one of the ten thousand random alarms on her phone or bursting into song due to her ex-theater kid tendencies, she’ll always keep you on your toes. Siddhi will always be there for you through the highs and lows of your first year at Rice: she’s the ultimate hype woman and the best supporter!

-Grace Wang Sid '25 and Amy He Sid '25

Jacob Lurvey (he/him) - Advisor

POV: you hear a loud voice on the grove raving about Seibel Servery’s mini chicken corndogs - you turn around and see a man speedwalking (he’s from New York) with one earring on, an “ironic” mullet, and an iced americano. Congrats, you’ve located senior Mechanical Engineering major Jacob Lurvey! When Jacob isn’t designing gears or catching frisbees with Rice’s ultimate team, you can find him prepping drinks at Coffeehouse, driving his friends to Target, or looking for his student ID. Despite all this, he still makes time to hang around Sid, whether that means Coordinating O-Week 2021 or planning the college’s most historic “Sid-80’s-themed water-pong tournament.” When he finds a minute to breathe, you can find him refreshing NBA forums, chasing obscure Wikipedia hyperlinks, or chatting with an endless list of friends in the Rice Memorial Center courtyard. Jacob is fiercely loyal, ever supportive, and just an all-in-all good guy. With him as your Advisor, you’re bound to make an amazing friend for life!

In life, there is one mystery that can’t be solved: What’s taller, Sid Richardson or Mohammad Khuroo? Don’t be intimidated by the 6 foot 5 rising sophomore, Mohammad Khuroo (formally known as MGK) is a true gentle giant - he’s one of the most understanding people you’ll ever meet! A true armchair philosopher, Mohammad is always open to a deep conversation about topics like: “What is the true meaning of life?” and “Which legendary Pokemon is the best?” His pokemon addiction has led to an uncanny obsession for collecting majors. As a dual major in Biochemistry and Asian studies, he is a great resource for all you incoming pre-meds. Aside from acing his Organic Chemistry exams and absolutely tearing up the badminton court, Mohammad is always down for a kickback with friends and a couple of gyro sandwiches. There is never a dull time with Mohammad, so get ready for an amazing O-Week!

Kate Mischlich (she/her) - McMurtry Co-Advisor

When Kathryn Mischlich was ten years old she suffered from severe insomnia and all her fingernails fell off. Every interaction you will have with Kate will make you say, “Oh, somehow that kinda makes sense.” Be prepared to have Kate’s medical history memorized by the end of O-Week (it’s quite extensive). Additionally, Kate is the best person to ever grace the campus of Rice University. She is a junior Bioengineering major (and kicks butt at it!) but still has plenty of time to throw down on the weekend. She’ll finish her engineering design project and then run around stealing rocks and doing energizers (ask her to show you). Kate is a compassionate, caring person—she literally spends her summers devoted to children with chronic illnesses—and you are blessed to have her as an O-Week Advisor. Get ready for a great O-Week that will leave you in awe of the incredible Kate Mischlich!

This 5’7 rising sophomore hails from the glitzy city of Las Vegas (702 represent!) and harbors a love-hate relationship with her major, Computational Applied Mathematics & Operations Research. While a #girlieinSTEM, Grace possesses immense writing talents – including crafting Victorian love letters, being Drake’s ghostwriter, creating new slang (all the cool people use it), and writing Midwest Emo bangers (her sample track is extremely fire). Outside of her poetic pursuits, you can find Grace doing all things wellbeing (as the Student Association Wellbeing Committee Vice-Chair!!), dyeing her hair and/or cutting her bangs, enjoying Oh My Gogi fries, coming up with detailed yet slightly unhinged schemes, and overall fwf (fun with friends) -ing. Look forward to having one of the kindest, funniest, and smartest Sidizens at your fingertips; she’ll always be there for you!

Aidan Terlizzi (he/him) - Advisor

WOW! You are so lucky. This junior Resident Health Advisor at Sid carries so much love and care for the people in his life (ofc that includes his O-Week New Students, YOU)! He has an incredible ability to read body language and will always be there for you. Besides being an amazing person and SCHOLAR, he’s doing “just fine” academically as a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering student. I’m sure if he spent half the time he spends on his tech business Untanglify and coding on academics, he might be able to qualify to be a Peer Academic Advisor :) Aidan is passionate about a lot of things - correcting people’s view of his hometown Virginia, nature, the environment, fashion, reading, coding, and running, yet, I have no doubt what he’s most passionate about is the opportunity to get to know his O-Week New Students, asking them how their day is, and watching them as they navigate through college and grow as individuals.

-Luna Xia Jones '24

Cecilia Visco (she/her) - Advisor

Introducing Cecilia Visco, otherwise known as vscogrl! Cecilia is a sophomore Social Policy Analysis major, Environmental Studies minor, and French certificate-r. She’s also an avid Powderpuff enthusiast, probably the most consistent non-Executive Council Council attendee, and loves all things Sid traditions. Still, as busy as she is, she’s always down for a study break. If you ever want to go on a late night run to Oh My Gogi, Cecilia is your (vsco)grl. As a heads up though, she’s from New Rochelle, and her New Yorker instincts may kick in when the streets seem open for the crossing! Other things you can go to Cecilia for: assistance on daily Taylordles, a crash course on 80s music (which you’ll need for Sid 80s), venting, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series watch parties, and crochet sessions (use your O-Week child privilege and ask her to crochet you something!). Get hyped to meet your O-Week Advisor, and happy O-Week!

-Grace Kwon Sid ‘25

Prat Mohapatra (he/him) - Advisor + Gopher

You are in need of a Prat in your life. This beautiful specimen—a Biosciences/Philosophy major hailing from Plano, Texas in the Class of 2025—is a man of intensity. Spicy food? Not a challenge. He’ll gladly tank the heat, laugh it off, and ask for something hotter. Late night Organic Chemistry exam or Philosophy paper? He’s already on the grind at Fondren. Unfortunately, he’s also obsessed with the Dallas Cowboys and will try to convince you to love them as much as he does. Known around Sid for his remarkable ability to overshare and capacity to somehow never get embarrassed, he is the absolute best person to share your anxieties and stresses with. He’ll probably make you feel better by telling you some mortifying story of his own; he has a lot to choose from. Be prepared for this angelic singer, absolute life of the party, and incredible friend in your life.

Jenny Heo (she/her) - Duncan Co-Advisor

You see a fashionable junior skate towards you on a pastel blue pennyboard. What does this confident, dashing Neuroscience major want from you? You’d normally be scared, but you quickly relax after realizing it’s Jenny Heo, your favorite O-Week Co-Advisor!

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, this Duncaroo (Duncan College resident) is the perfect example of girlbossing at Rice. She’s the socials officer at BASYK (Rice’s K-pop Hip Hop dance team), seasoned Peer Academic Advisor, and Duncan Treasurer. She also has experience in off-campus living, so feel free to ask her about that too! In her spare time, she plays video games, makes high quality Tik Toks, and cooks sunny side up eggs (shoutout @jennysegg). As energetic and outgoing as she is, Jenny is also an amazing listener and emotional support. She’s one of those people who can always make you feel genuinely comfortable and appreciated, and will for sure make your O-Week experience unforgettable.

Fredrick Gachoka (he/him) - Advisor

Have a flair for building rockets or just listening to jazz on a Friday afternoon? Fred's got you! Hailing from the savannah of Nairobi, Kenya, Fred would take you on adventures throughout Houston in search of the best Mexican food - he has a particular passion for beef fajitas, btw. From his « enjineer » t-shirt and multiple stays in the OEDK, you can tell that he's a Mechie (Mechanical Engineer major). He likes launching rockets with Eclipse and talking about anything space. Don’t be fooled by his STEMy profile, cause Fred is also passionate about history and philosophy and loves chatting about them. Beyond academics, Fred is an active member of Rice African Student Association (RASA) and loves the RASA community on campus. He's definitely a plug for East African and Amapiano songs. Fred is a nice, caring, and friendly person who takes pride in not killing a self-sufficient succulent he has in his room.

-Hamza Shili Lovett '25

Emma Saving (she/they) - Advisor

According to her birth certificate, Emma was born in Dallas 21 years ago. Incorrect. As the lore goes, she rose like Aphrodite from the froth of a warm whole milk latte, clad in a pleated skirt, crop top, combat boots, pink heart sunglasses, and high pigtails with (G)I-DLE’s “Tomboy” playing in the background. As a senior Biosciences major with a Medical Humanities minor, Emma will be starting an Master of Public Health program at UTHealth (ask her about the non-premed #womaninSTEM life). In addition to being a driven student, Emma is a director for BASYK, Rice’s K-pop dance group. Every bit as talented as she is thoughtful and supportive, Emma will treasure your time together. Whether going on a boba run or watching Pride and Prejudice x Twilight TikToks, Emma will give you a warm welcome to Sid as your O-Week Advisor and make you feel right at home!

-Alyssa Cahoy Sid ‘23

Bryant Polanco (he/him) - Advisor

Get ready to have the best Advisor: Bryant Polanco! This sophomore pre-med Health Sciences major and Neuroscience minor brings spice and laughter to every conversation. He is always ready for karaoke and volleyball — legend has it that he switched out of a lab class to play a game. You can always rely on him to take care of you as he is becoming an Emergency Medical Technician. Need a late-night study buddy? He’s got you! His unmatched playlist will keep you entertained as you grind the books. Don’t know Jesse & Joy or Raye? Now you do! Despite being the best Sid Treasurer, his wallet is always open for Starbucks and is not afraid to spend Tetra. You always know you’re going to have an amazing time when you’re with Bryant. It’s safe to say you’re in for an awesome (and maybe chaotic) O-Week with this energetic, thoughtful, and supportive Advisor by your side.

-Alejandra Jimenez Sid '25

Trisha Gupta (she/her) - Advisor + Diversity Facilitator

Meet Trisha Gupta, a Sid Rich senior hailing from Katy, Texas! She’s a Social Policy Analysis and Economics double major, minoring in Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences (EEPS) as well as Politics, Law and Social Thought (PSLT). Trisha absolutely loves schedule planning, and her Google Calendar is one of the busiest schedules you’ll ever see. Despite all of this, she somehow makes time for everything and everyone (does she even sleep??). She’s so excited to hang with her New Students at all hours of day or night! She’s also a cat lover (ask to meet her adorable mustached cat Dolly!), and she loves cooking/baking. She’s a little bit of a mess in the sweetest way, and we love her bubbly, positive, and super-involved energy! Look forward to an incredible O-Week with Trisha as your Diversity Facilitator and Advisor :)

-Colleen Skinner Sid '23

Solomon Ni (he/they) - Jones Co-Advisor

Gatsby wishes he could do it like Solomon Ni.

Jones's best Social Policy Analysis and Visual and Dramatic Arts major, this thrifted-camera-swinging, bicycle-wielding, avid sobbing-emoji-user guy has a flair for fun. This sophomore is always on the move: planning (and then actually executing) impromptu cross-country road trips, picking up his friends from the airport, or biking over to your dorm at 10 P.M. to check in on you. As a solid foodie and chef himself, rest assured that Solomon will always order a round of spring rolls for the table. Or, at the very least, drive you to Chipotle. This artsy activist indie film boy has the most infectious laugh, gives the best hugs and even better advice, and will most definitely spoil his O-Week New Students rotten!

Mirely Nieto (she/her) - Advisor + Historian

If you’re ever looking for your O-Week videographer, Mirely Nieto, just follow the resounding jingle of her 20-pound lanyard and the trail of Bath and Body Works Champagne Toast fragrance she leaves behind. When she’s not napping in random classrooms or creating a new Spotify playlist for her mood of the hour, this Economics (or Kinesiology or Education??) major from Tucson, AZ is heavily involved as the women’s soccer team manager and a member of HACER (Hispanic Association for Cultural Enrichment at Rice). A walking talking dictionary of tiktok references and catchy lingo (which you WILL pick up) aside, Mirely is one of the most genuinely kind and caring people you will meet at Rice. Although she’s only a rising sophomore, she still gives great life advice, and may even let you hold one of her 50 Squishmallows if you ever need to rant about anything.

-Scott Koh Sid ‘25, Austin Tran Sid ‘25, Guinivere Yeung Sid ‘25

Abby Antinossi (she/her) - Advisor

Meet Abby! Though she hails from the windy city (Chicago, Illinois), Abby is a bona fide country girl. This Rice University sophomore has Kenny Chesney’s charm, the Dixie Chicks’ swagger, and Carrie Underwood’s attitude. Emphasis on the attitude–at some point, you’ll meet Abby AntiNasty. She’s loving and kind when you need it and can be tough as nails when you need it. When this History major and pre-law student isn’t writing papers in the Sid Private Dining Room (PDR), you can find her at Chaus, serving up lattes, laughs, and probably playing Goodbye Earl on the stereo (can we blame her??). Abby loves to have fun; ask her about Chi-town, the Hunger Games, Rice Rugby, or literally anything, and you’ll have a conversation for as long as you want! Get ready for O-Week, because Abby’s ready to hoot ‘em with you all week and forever!

-Hubert King Lovett ‘25

Benjamin Chao (he/him) - Lovett Co-Advisor

You (yes, you) are about to have the best week of your life with Ben “accidentally shaved his head” Chao. Unfortunately, this Computer Science/Neuroscience double major senior hails from Los Angeles, California but fortunately also comes from Lovett College. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, this avid food connoisseur will make sure you taste all that Houston has to offer. Inside Ben’s head, you’ll find lots of deep philosophical questions and his plan to beat the newest video game. Never invite Ben to play poker; he will take all your money (unlikely) or lose all his money (quite likely). Spending his time across four research projects, Rice Taiwanese Association, and being the first one at the servery, he really is a Renaissance man. Kanye has nothing on Ben since West is his favorite servery. Intramural Football champion, you can always find Ben lifting weights and playing racquetball. Rice’s finest pupil Ben is so ahead of his coursework he could be part-time next year, but he’ll be full-time just for you. This will be the best O-Week of your life—get ready!

-Michael Tang Lovett ‘23, Neil Chopra Lovett ‘23, and Pete Sirithanachai Lovett ‘23

Michelle Gachelin (she/hers) - Advisor

Hailing from literally all over the globe, Michelle Gachelin is one of the most well-traveled girlies ever. Currently, a Health Sciences major, Michelle is one of the most kind-hearted and loving people I have ever had the joy of knowing. She has the best music and coffee shop recommendations and can also recommend just about any food or drink place. Michelle always has your back and loves so deeply. Anyone who has her as an Advisor is the luckiest person ever.

-Hanna Frampton Sid '24

Renly Liu (he/him) - Advisor

What does the ideal Advisor look like? Is he a ravishing senior from San Jose, California?

Is he the biggest nerd at Sid? Is he a mechanical engineering major with a peculiar passion for Peppa Pig? If these are the values you seek in an Advisor, then Renly Liu is the Advisor for you. Renly was born on Halloween in 2001 and has been a monster at biking and building rockets ever since. If you want to go to Tiger Noodle House, or start a clothing brand that is currently bankrupt, Renly is your guy.

If you’re ever having a tough day, just know that Renly will always be there to finesse a seesaw with you, sell you some merch, or throw your frisbee into the ocean. Renly is an amazing conversationalist who will always be there for you.

Just don’t ask about Rotio’s profit margins.

Savannah Tiemann (She/Her/Hers) - Advisor

You’ve heard of exploring the galaxies, but how about your own behaviors through the stars? Receive (un)warranted explorations with Tiemann Inc., located on the 11th floor. But Savannah Tiemann’s talents go beyond astrological birth chart readings. Hailing from Millstadt, Illinois, this senior Chemical and Biomolecular Engineer, neuroscientist, former composites lead for Rice’s rocketry team, Academic Fellow, mother to a pink dino named Lola, Miley Cyrus enthusiast, cruise aficionado, and expert in being allergic to everything joyful (dairy, soy, gluten, etc.), is one of the smartest and hardest workers. She has received awards for her research in solar energy, neuroengineering, and Alzheimer’s disease. And although that sentence made her sound like a true Virgo, the Cancer pulls its weight because she is the kindest, most empathetic soul (thank you, Sav, for informing us enough to write this reference ourselves). Group 13, you’re going to get the best of all worlds with Savannah.

Maria Alejandra Mora Sid ‘23 and Rusty Ludwigsen Sid ‘23

Benji Otting (He/Him/His) - Advisor

Benji Otting, a sophomore originally from Boston, has rocks in his brain. That’s mostly because he’s an Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences major with a focus in Geology! One of Rice’s ultimate frisbee team’s premier throwers, Benji can often be found tossing the disc out in the Sid quad. You’ll struggle to find anyone easier to talk to than Benji, and there’s certainly no one with a smoother beard. Ask him about the flora of Massachusetts hiking trails, soul music, the airplanes that fly over Sid, or his favorite fake majors for a conversation you will never forget!

-Graham Waterstraat Sid ‘25

CJ Pfanstiel - Advisor

CJ is a Sid junior studying Political Science and Business. He’s from Kansas City and, as such, enjoys barbecue and watching the KC Chiefs. CJ enjoyed playing sports in high school (mostly soccer and tennis) and has dabbled with Rice’s Rec leagues. He’d love to throw or kick a ball around with you if you have free time.

CJ has served in various positions within the Rice Student Association for the past two years. He also interned in the U.S. Congress this summer, so be wary of wading into a political conversation with him! He’ll usually play devil’s advocate to add another irritating dimension to the debate.

All-in-all, CJ has enjoyed getting involved in Sid’s student life and is looking forward to supporting Sid’s awesome incoming class as best he can!

CJ Pfanstiel Sid '24

Alice Sun (She/Her/Hers) - Will Rice Co-Advisor

Her last name may be Sun, but in reality, this lively sophomore from Las Vegas is always up well past midnight! Fueled solely by the jasmine milk tea coursing through her veins, Alice is a bustling Health Sciences major on the pre-dental track. Her beloved pastimes include quoting memes, petting cats, crocheting amigurumis, biking with the greatest Beer Bike team Rice has ever seen (WRWS!), and most importantly of all - admiring birds in all forms (both living and food - she’s like 90% fueled by chicken). All jokes aside, you have truly scored the most caring and supportive Co-Advisor. Alice always makes the time to help out friends and peers alike; she’s quick to notice if you’re having an off day and even quicker to cheer you up. If you ever need anything, you can always find her vibing in her natural habitat of Will Rice Commons, boba in hand.

Group 14

Alex Kornblum (He/Him) - Advisor

Group 14 is lucky to have Alex, a rising sophomore, as an O-Week Advisor! He is one of the most caring and genuine people ever. Alex is from Boston (big Celtics fan) and loves Marvel (ask him about his connection to Chris Evans!). As a Social Policy Analysis major, data science minor, Spanish certificate-r, and Civic Leadership certificate-r, he keeps himself busy, BUT he manages his time gracefully, balancing his classes (and interesting, rigorous courses he doesn’t even have to take), his commitment to Sid (let’s hear it for our Peer Academic Advisors), his practices with the Rice Frisbee team Cloud 9, and his relationships (we all love Alex). Alex takes advantage of all opportunities at Rice, so he’s your go-to person for more information! He is an amazing listener and an even better friend. With Alex, you are bound to have an AMAZING O-Week!

Sienna Tu Sid '25

Rusty Ludwigsen (He/Him) - Advisor + Gopher

Imagine a strange rash appears on your arm on a Saturday, but the Student Health Center is closed! You begin to cry with despair but have no fear, Dr. Rusty is here! Rusty Ludwigsen, a senior Cell Biology major and Neuroscience minor from Albuquerque, New Mexico, is not only the sweetest person you’ll ever meet, he is also knowledgeable about all things skin, biology, and neuroscience related! Owner of the wrinkliest brain on the block, he has published research about ischemic strokes and migraines. And while he seems intimidating, he’s probably intimidated by you (joking!…mostly). His shell is hard to crack since he prefers to be with animals, but who doesn’t? Once you get to know him, you won’t stop laughing or eating Chick-fil-A. Rusty is the kind of friend you can count on; we give him 5 stars on Yelp. Group 14, you really lucked out with this one!

-Maria Alejandra Mora Sid '23 and Savannah Tiemann '23

Hanna Frampton (She/her) - Advisor

Hanna is a spontaneous, hilarious, and wickedly talented junior (Sid ’24) from Jacksonville, Florida. She’s a MUSI majoring in voice performance. Hanna has the voice of an angel, but don’t let her classical training deceive you. She loves to get down to some Doja Cat, Prettymuch, and Harry Styles. Had a hard week? Call Hanna, order some Taco Bell, and have your worries melt away. Need a 3:00 am laugh? Ask Hanna to impersonate Lord Voldemort (you won’t be disappointed). Most importantly, need a friend to hype you up harder than anyone else while listening to your problems, giving hilarious relationship advice, teaching you to dance, and performing a complete opera? Call Hanna; she’ll get you fixed up right!

-Ella McBee Sid '24

Mitchell Han (he/him) - Brown Co-Advisor

FRICK!! Meet Mitchell “Mweesh” Han, a rising sophomore from Brown whose every hobby screams that he’s a good boy from California. Keshi lover, boba enthusiast, expert guitarist, Eagle Scout, and Uber Eats Gold member, what more can you ask for? His only flaw is that he always orders the same basic boba every time (the classic black milk tea with boba). Mitchell always tries his best, whether that’s in his Biochem classes for his major, planning a weekend trip, or even League of Legends. With perma “fricks," Mitchell will leave you at the end of O-Week cursing a lot less and adopting a lot of weird lingo. You know that you can always count on him when it comes down to it. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his friends, and you won’t find a more genuine or empathetic guy at Rice (or anywhere).

-Emily Yang Jones ‘25

Peer Academic Advisors (PAAs)

Emily Wang (she/her) - Head O-Week PAA

If you ever see a gorgeous, color-coordinated, and fashionable senior walking through the halls of Sid with a Celsius in hand, then you’ve just met Emily Wang! Majoring in Neuroscience and Health sciences, Emily is from Princeton, New Jersey, and you’re so lucky to have her as one of your O-Week and head Peer Academic Advisors! If you’re ever looking for a gym buddy, someone to discuss the latest K-Drama with, or the best advice on academics or just life, Emily is your person! Emily never fails to put a smile on your face, whether it’s by sending you quirky Bitmojis or giving you the best hug in the world. Emily is a genuine and loyal friend with the brain of Einstein and a heart of gold, and you’re so lucky to have her on your side!

-Charlotte Lo Sid '23

Grace Kwon (she/her) - O-Week PAA

Hailing from Chicago’s suburbs, Grace will make your problems fade away. Find her in commons whipping up crochet creations or binging Netflix’s newest K-drama; her calming presence will immediately put you at ease. This sophomore English major reads people like a book and knows the answers to your questions before you know what to ask. Debating your major or minor? Grace has considered just about every degree under the sun, so she’s got a pre-made pros and cons list for each. Tired of your Spotify rotation? Grace has playlists for every emotion known to mankind (I suggest “Spoopy season is OVER”). Want tips on riding a bicycle?…she might not be able to help you there, but even if she can’t bike, Grace will walk any distance to help a friend, including walking through some sketchy parking lots for late-night boba runs. Consider yourselves lucky whenever you are ~graced~ by this trailblazer.

-Cecilia Visco Sid '25

Tania Garcia-Jasso (she/her) - O-Week PAA

What do you get when you cross a funky button down shirt, a “your mom” joke, and a deep obsession with Instagram Reels? If you guessed Tania, Sid’s hottest new O-Week PAA and Historian, you’d be spot on! Hailing from McAllen, Texas (puro 956), this pre-grad sophomore is a jack of all trades: not only is she a Cognitive Science/Psychology double major (not to mention her Statistics minor and Spanish certificate!), she’s a KTRU DJ and a College Rep for HACER (Hispanic Association for Cultural Enrichment at Rice). If you can’t find her in the Sid study room or in the Commons playing air hockey, you’ll probably catch her at the Rice Memorial Center (RMC), either finishing up a shift in the KTRU stacks or grabbing an energy boost from Chaus! Don’t hesitate to ask her for advice — academic or otherwise — she’s a powerhouse of a Peer Academic Advisor and a fantastic friend, so get ready to get your academic planning on with Tania!!

-Priya Trakru Sid ’23 and Laura Semro Sid ’22

Eli Blasini (he/him) - O-Week PAA

With amazingly skillful Eli Blasini on the PAA team this year, you can go ahead and kiss all your academic planning worries goodbye! A handsome lad hailing from Space City itself, this Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering major has his ion the prize: helping you formulate the perfect course schedule during O-Week! But his interests don’t end there— he is also a part of Eclipse, the MOB, and the Rice Jazz Band. Quite the jack of all trades, if I can say so myself! If you ever catch sight of someone who’s got some uncanny dad energy (right down to the jokes), it’s probably Eli. Now, you may be thinking, “Eli is a striking young man of many talents! I am in good hands!” And as his fellow PAA, I can say that you are indeed correct in thinking so.
