Welcome to Sid Richardson College - the tallest and best college and your new home away from home! You have been selected to live at the biggest, baddest, and most welcoming college on all of Rice campus, and I am so honored to get to welcome you into our Sid family; I hope each and every one of you will find feelings of home and community here as I have found.
As you prepare for your first day as a Rice Owl, I’m sure you are feeling a whirlwind of emotions. Not too long ago, I remember receiving my college assignment and feeling both excitement and nervousness, having little idea what my future at Rice would look like. Throughout O-Week however, I learned what it meant to be a Sidizen and my excitement continued to grow as I bonded with my O-Week Family, embraced Sid traditions, and formed lifelong friendships. You may have difficulty becoming acclimated at first, but please trust that you could not have ended up in a more welcoming and thoughtful community to spend these next four years. I know I personally entered Rice with the lingering question of “Am I sure I made the right decision?” and today, I could not be happier I ended up within this university and, more specifically, this college.
You are entering Sid at a unique point in its history as we continue to shape this new building into our own. You have the unique opportunity to create new traditions and opportunities to connect in an already thriving college culture. I urge you to discover new ways to connect and make your experience at Sid one that best fits your needs and desires. I encourage you to get involved in your own way, whether that be joining committees, serving as a peer resource, running for elected positions, driving a thoughtful and involved culture on your assigned floor, or simply by being an active member of our community at social events and Council.
Sid is more than just a dorm. Being a Sidizen means joining part of a community that truly cares for one another and the greater Rice community; our college is a vibrant and diverse community made up of the most inspiring and caring people I’ve ever met. Sid’s Culture of Care is visible in the individual traditions in our residential college; our culture is shaped by small, day-to-day thoughtful interactions as well as KITCs, elevator chats, Feature Fridays, Sid80s, and so much more. Your time at Sid Richardson College will shape you in ways you cannot yet imagine, and we are thrilled to be a part of that journey. For all the ups and downs you’ll face during your time at Rice, the Sid community will be there to celebrate with you and support you every step of the way.
As your president, please know I am always here to support you in any way I can. I am just a knock away if you stop by my room (room 1204), and you can always email or text me if you want to talk, need advice, have a Sid suggestion, or just want a snack. I can help you learn to navigate the endless resources Rice has to offer or just take you on a Boba run to chat about life. Truthfully, as President, I am just another Sidizen eager to help out in whatever way I can.
We cannot wait to greet you in our wonderful building and welcome you home!
