From North or South

On I-45 North or South: Take the US-59 South exit. From US-59 South take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset and an immediate left onto Main Street. Enter at Entrance 4. From the north on US-59 South: Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset and an immediate left onto Main Street. Enter at Entrance 4. 

From the South on US-59 North: Exit at Greenbriar and stay on the frontage road, and turn right (south) on Greenbriar. Follow Greenbriar to the light at Rice Boulevard. Stay on Rice Boulevard until it becomes Sunset. Turn right on Main Street. Enter at Entrance 4. 

From the Galleria/Uptown Area

Take West Loop 610 South to 59 North and exit at Greenbriar. Stay on the frontage road, turn right (south) on Greenbriar. Follow Greenbriar to the light at Rice Boulevard. Stay on Rice Boulevard until it becomes Sunset. Turn right on Main Street. Enter at Entrance 4. 

From East or West

From the West on I-10 East: Take 610 South to 59 North and exit at Greenbriar. Stay on the frontage road, turn right (south) on Greenbriar. Follow Greenbriar to the light at Rice Boulevard. Stay on Rice Boulevard until it becomes Sunset. Turn right on Main Street. Enter at Entrance 4. 

From the East on I-10 West: Take the US-59 South exit. From US-59 South take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset and an immediate left onto Main Street. Enter at Entrance 4. 

From the Northwest on 290: Take the 610 South to 59 North and exit at Greenbriar. Stay on the frontage road, turn right (south) on Greenbriar. Follow Greenbriar to the light at Rice Blvd. where you will take a right hand turn until it becomes Sunset Blvd. Turn right on Main Street. Enter at Entrance 4.

 
 
 

First Day Schedule

As you pull up to your new home, you will see your ecstatic and ridiculously loud Advisors jumping and screaming in excitement for your arrival. Don’t be surprised if they already know your name. They will be dressed in Sid t-shirts, and will be hard to miss! We will have a car unloading line formed in the parking lot. Upperclassmen Advisors will help you unload your car and move your belongings to your room.

Once your car is fully unpacked, drivers will be directed to the move-in day family parking lot. You and whoever you arrived with will then be able to go to your room and move-in within your given time slot. To prepare for this, please label all belongings with your first and last name, O-Week group name, and room number (this information will be provided to you prior to O-Week). Your move-in time will be provided to you in an email before you arrive to campus.

Please do not arrive prior to your assigned move-in time. More information about move-in will be sent to your email; please read that email closely. After settling in, we will share a meal with you and your visitors in Sid Commons. You will not be able to see your parents after lunch for the remainder of the week due to our packed schedule, so make sure to say your goodbyes after you move-in. Then, your journey begins.

What to Bring

Feel free to bring memories from home and other decorations for your room, but remember that you are sharing the space with other people, and that your space is limited. When you receive your roommate forms, please be sure to coordinate what you and your roommates/suitemates are bringing to Rice. You are also able to buy any smaller necessities from Target on Main Street or any other stores around Houston, but be sure to have all the necessities ready on move-in day, as it will be a packed week and you likely won’t have time to run to the store.

Before you arrive, please be sure to label all of your belongings with: 

  • - First and last name

  • - O-Week group name

  • - Room number

Advisors will move your items for you, so be sure that EVERY ITEM, no matter how small, is properly labelled so they will not be misplaced.
