If you love Acai bowls, thrifting, spontaneous side quests, watching Gossip Girl, and playing volleyball-pickleball-basketball, get ready to have your Google Calendar filled with invites from your new O-week advisor, Maya Harpavat! Known as Sid's sweetie-pie, non-driving Houstonian, this jun is known for her insane public transportation skills AND being friends with EVERYONE (she is mutuals with everyone on campus and in Houston). If you can't find her, she's most likely with five-year-old Lucas and two-year-old Olivia at Sid. As an English and Health Sciences junior and RHA, Maya exclusively indulges in sugar-free drinks and the healthiest variety of snacks, hence why you may find her bounding off the walls after taking two sips of an energy drink. Regardless, Maya is one of the best people you will ever meet at Rice, and she can't wait to welcome you to Rice!

WHAT!? An advisor just landed a sick backflip in the middle of the dance floor??? Ladies and gentlemen, that man is none other than Eric Shackelford! Coming all the way from O’Fallon, IL, Eric has those midwest mannerisms that’ll leave you instantly charmed. When he isn’t learning of horrors beyond our comprehension (pure math and physics) you can find him….well just about anywhere. Climbing rocks or roofs, helping others with math, or dropping some wisdom in any late night conversation, Eric truly is a jack of all trades. He is one of the most thoughtful people you will ever meet; just sit next to him and he’ll be sure to strike up a meaningful conversation. If you ever need anything to get the conversation started just ask him about his dog Sherman or what he thought about that movie you just watched—chances are he’s seen it too and has lots to say. Regardless of what you talk about, rest easy knowing that you are among the luckiest new students to have Eric as your O-Week Dad!

DID YOU GUYS HEAR THAT THERE WILL BE A YAPPING AND SUPER HAWT QUEEEEN AT SID OWEEEEK? Yuh, its actually y’all’s advisor Aliya Belay! Aliya is an incredible and super funny senior majoring in mechanical engineering who will make you feel the most welcomed at Sid. She will try to make you say yes to visit her in her amazing hometown (her words) Laurel, Maryland… just say yes, she will be so delighted and YIPPEE her way around. When she’s not busy being a habesha aerospace BADDIE, you can catch her walking (not biking since her bike got stolen…) around campus to serve looks and STAT 310 help. When in need of help, you can count on Aliya, just get her Chipotle or a bowl of Cocoa Puffs with a side of chocolate milk… we know, but hey, it’s her favorite dinner and we are not one to judge! We are so excited for you all to meet beautiful Aliya- so buckle up, sit back, relax, and get ready to take off on the BEST O WEEK OF YOUR LIFE with Rice’s finest!!

Congratulations, you’ve lucked out!!! Jason is the BEST advisor you could possibly hope for. A sophomore computer science major hailing from San Jose, California, this KING from Sid will keep you entertained with his endless knowledge of random musical lyrics and board games. A true Fondy Warrior, he’s incredibly hard working yet always down to have fun. When he’s not grinding for his next COMP midterm, you can find him trying out a new escape room or laughing at a bad movie. The best part about Jason? He’s literally the most caring and generous person you’ll ever meet. If you’re ever feeling down, Jason will be there to cheer you up with his corny jokes. GET EXCITED!!! WOO!! (P.S. Ask him about his turtle Narutoto or his favorite Pokémon!)
